The property taxes kept going up. I bought the house as an investment but the declining market took all the equity and then some. Owning a home helps when you are younger and need the tax advantages of owning. I now rent an apartment. I love it. No yard work, no bills for fixing the furnace etc. Just monthly rent and utilities. The rent I pay is not much more than I paid over 20 years ago when I last lived in an apartment but I get senior discounts. I live on the fourth floor and have a beautiful view of the sky and the tops of the trees. I watch the sunrise every morning. I have two chihuahuas and a kitty that live with me and I have a full schedule of activities with friends and also here at the apartments. I like people, so the adjustment was minimal.
